A BRIEF THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Between This & That
Several people have noted that the Dedication Ceremony for our new shul building takes place the day after Passover ends…..it is as if we got out of Egypt and BAM immediately enter the Promised Land.   Those of us who know better are quite aware that our journey to this time and place was anything but quick.  Now, I’d like to point out something about which you might not be aware.  Our Dedication Day occurs just four days before one of the saddest days in the Jewish calendar, Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day (it begins at sundown on Wednesday night May 4th).  What does it mean for us, the “surviving remnant”, to commemorate the loss of 1/3 of our People, including 1,5000,000 children?  To me it means that we must be builders of Jewish life not only with what we have to offer but to somehow find a way to give an additional 1/3 of ourselves in honor of those whose opportunity to give was so cruelly taken away.  In making this new synagogue possible, I believe we have done just that.  This Yom HaShoah every Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills builder can justifiably say “we didn’t do this just for ourselves and our children.  We did this for them too.”

Chag Sameach and Shabbat Shalom, RabbiB

DONATE YOUR CAR TODAY!
Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills has partnered with CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services) to offer an exciting new way to donate to our Capital Campaign, by donating a car, boat, or other motorized vehicle. It’s simple to do. Just visit www.donatingiseasy.org/CarDonationInfo.aspx?CID=3563  or call 855-500-RIDE (7433). Tell them you would like to donate your vehicle on behalf of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills and they will do the rest, including picking up your vehicle and sending you a receipt for the amount it was sold for after the sale has been complete. We get most of the funds from every transaction and you get a tax deduction, a real win/win. This is available to us on a nationwide basis, so please spread the word to your family and friends and consider donating today.
