Yom HaShoah

A BRIEF JEWISH QUESTION FOR THE WEEK

Tonight, the 27th of Nisan begins Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day.
This date was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the Warsaw
ghetto uprising. In memory and honor of all those murdered, incinerated
and piled in unmarked graves; in memory and honor of all whose entire
families were destroyed so there is not even one person alive to say
Kaddish for the others; in memory and honor of the loss of 1/3 of the
entire Jewish People, I ask 2 things….1) that you read the poem below
and 2) you consider how as a Jew you might live a bit extra for that one
in three who was not given that chance. RabbiB

“Everyone has a name” Poem by Zelda [translated from Hebrew]
Everyone has a name
given to him by God
and given to him by his parents.
Everyone has a name
given to him by his stature
and the way he smiles.
and given to him by his clothing
Everyone has a name
given to him by the mountains
and given to him by the walls.
Everyone has a name
given to him by the stars
and given to him by his neighbors.
Everyone has a name
given to him by his sins
and given to him by his longing.
Everyone has a name
given to him by his enemies
and given to him by his love.
Everyone has a name
given to him by his holidays
and given to him by his work.
Everyone has a name
given to him by the seasons
and given to him by his blindness.
Everyone has a name
given to him by the sea and
given to him
by his death.
