Temple Funds

Please click below to donate to one of the following funds. Dedication information will be collected.

Annual Tzedakah Campaign

Our Annual Tzedakah Fund is an essential part of our budget, acknowledging that dues pays for approximately 40% of our operating costs. The Annual Tzedakah campaign supports our operating budget and also pays for high-impact projects that are would otherwise not be achievable from dues and endowment fund interest. Thanks to the community’s generosity, the 2020 Annual Fund raised nearly $50,000 to support our shul during Covid and reinforce our religious school. Stay tuned for news about the 2021 Annual Fund.

Dues Plus / Dues Abatement Fund

The Dues Plus / Dues Abatement Fund supports dues adjustments for temple members. For more information or to participate in our Dues Abatement program please contact the temple office or the treasurer.

Building Capital Repair Fund

Our Building Capital Repair Fund allows us to begin saving for the inevitable capital repairs and replacements that the Congregation will incur in years to come.

General Fund

The General Fund supports the annual operating costs of the synagogue.

Education and Youth

Passport to Israel: Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills participates in The Myra and Robert Kraft Passport to Israel by matching  contributions of our  congregants. Any child in third or seventh grade may participate. Many of our families have benefitted from this program. Read more about this program or visit CJP’s website.

Mishloach Manot: Our annual Purim fundraiser raises funds to support the operation of the synagogue’s religious school.

The Library Fund supports the acquisition of books and other media for our treasured library.

The Religious School Fund supports the operation of the Congregation’s Religious School. Learn more about our Rabbi Jerome Weistrop Religious School.

The Rosenbaum Fund of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills provides scholarships for Jewish Camps and Trips to Israel.

Religious Activities and Giving

The Kiddush and Oneg Fund Supports the meal and beverages following weekly Friday night and  Shabbat morning services. Honor a loved one by sponsoring an Oneg or Kiddush.

Bible & Prayer Books Fund buys new prayer books for use in our temple. Purchase a Sim Shalom Siddur or Machzor! Call or email the office for book orders or fill out our online form!

Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund meets community needs as determined by the rabbi (e.g., charitable, educational).

Chesed Fund (Deeds of Lovingkindness) supports members of our congregation when they need it by paying the cost to deliver meals to members who have recently welcomed children into their families or are recovering from illness/surgery.

Women’s Network (formerly known as Sisterhood)
The primary philanthropic/tzedakah mission of the Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills Women’s Network is to promote and support the welfare of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills and its Religious School. To do so, Women’s Network, its Board of Directors and its membership at large participates and supports the activities of the Temple. This includes the sponsorship of cultural and educational activities throughout the year. Women’s Network is an active, responsive partner in the leadership of our Temple thus helping to foster a greater sense of community within the Temple Family.

Endowment Funds

Our two endowment funds have a particular focus. As is usual with endowments, principal investments are untouchable and are invested for perpetuity. Only the interest earned is spent annually.  Click on the Endowment Fund title to donate to one of our Endowment Funds.

Temple Endowment

Established in 2011 the Endowment Fund provides general operational funds supplementary to dues, tuitions, and other ordinary payments and contributions, for use in maintaining the highest possible level of religious, educational, cultural, and social activities, programs, and services for its members and the Jewish community. The initial principal of this fund may not be spent by the Congregation unless the viability of the existence of the synagogue is at stake and 2/3 of the Board of Directors votes to approve use of the principal. This fund is intended to assure the continued presence of a Jewish community on the South Shore in perpetuity.

Adas Shalom Endowment

The interest on this fund directly supports our Religious School. Currently this fund supports tuition subsidies in the amount of $290 per student. It also supports  fees for Jewish summer camp and fees for continuing Jewish education by members of the Congregation.

Scrip Program

Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”

When you purchase Scrip you’re purchasing gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used the same way you would use cash to shop in supermarkets, pharmacies, (CVS or Walgreens), clothing stores, restaurants, home improvements stores etc. The difference is that our Temple will earn a percentage each time Scrip is purchased. There is no additional charge to you. $25.00 for $25.00 or $100 for $100.
