While most millennials opt for urban living others find comfort in smaller sized cities, places like Melrose, the 7th hottest zip code in the country right now. Just 4 square miles, 7 miles north of Boston according to its Mayor and native son Robert Dolan, this place has it all.

Linda O’Koniewski likens Melrose to celebration, Florida, the model city conceived by Disney. A mix of housing, a walkable downtown, transportation.

The name Turner has a long history in the local seafood industry both wholesale and retail. Joe Turner is third generation and grew up near this main street eatery.

Coming in at #8 in a survey by the personal finance web site Wallet Hub is the town of Milton.It’s not the first time this Boston suburb has been ranked on a list of best places to live.

To get a feel for Milton travel Adams street from the Dorchester line at Lower Mills up to the birthplace of George H. W. Bush…take in the city view at Hutchinson’s field across from the Forbes house museum, then cross over the expressway into East Milton square. Here you will find Milton’s only grocer, Fruit Center Marketplace.

“The Plate” at Fruit Center Marketplace is Suzanne Lombardi’s second Milton location, the other, a smaller take out spot in Lower Mills.

Milton is one of two school systems in Massachusetts that offer French immersion. The program, now 30 years old, is a draw for new families. Half the incoming first graders are enrolled each year says Superintendent Mary Gormley.

Mention Milton and Milton Academy may be the first image that comes to mind…the 200 year old prep school known for its illustrious roster of alums…The Kennedys, Deval Patrick and James Taylor. It turns out the school’s address is one of its best assets.

Milton is headquarters of blue hills reservation…a green oasis in this otherwise urban setting.

The reservation is also home to theBlue Hill Weather Observatory and has been since 1885. Today the observatory is run as a science center.House hunting?
