Monthly Mitzvah Program

Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills continuously seeks to demonstrate a communal agenda that reflects our priorities and values. The Monthly Mitzvah Program is an example of our commitment to the Jewish idea that “doing good deeds is an obligation.” Since its inception in 2017 over one hundred members each year have volunteered for the program’s community service projects and events. In the past our congregation has conducted winter, summer and formal clothing drives, prepared lunch bags for a homeless shelter, tutored elementary school children, provided English enrichment for immigrant adults, conducted blood drives and helped seniors and the developmentally disabled during different holiday seasons. The activities serve both Jews and non-Jews.

In some activities CBSBH partners with local, regional and national organizations, such as the Red Cross, Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JF&CS), Interfaith Social Services of Quincy and Father Bill’s Homeless Shelters in Quincy and Brockton. For example, each month CBSBH member families donate to JF&CS's Family Table toward its mission of providing kosher food, creating a caring Jewish connection, and empowering people to make healthy eating a part of their daily lives.
